AI COULD DIAGNOSE AUTISM
Artificial Intelligence could be used to diagnose autism according to a study from Louisville, Kentucky.
A newly developed AI system that analyses MRI scans of the brain identified autistic children aged 24 to 48 months with a 98.5% accuracy.
At the moment the traditional methods of diagnosis only become reliable around 3 years of age.
The AI system involves isolating brain tissue images from MRI scans and identifying markers that indicate the level of connectivity between brain regions.
An algorithm compares marker patterns in the brains of neurodivergent children with those who are neurotypical.
AI was applied to 226 children ( 126 autistic children and 100 neurotypical)
3% of UK population are autistic.
