Figures show a 40% increase in the number of children from pre-school to secondary school receiving support in England, Scotland and Wales since 2016-2017 according to data compiled by the European Agency for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education.
Over 560,000 children received some form of SEN support in 2021-2022.
By comparison the rise since 2016 was just 30% in Italy and France. It was 20% in Germany and 12% in Spain.
