To mark World Mental Health Awareness Day, this diary entry describes the worries, distractions, irrational ideas, thoughts, rituals and urges of a number of students with whom teachers come into contact. Over 2% of students will have this anxiety related disorder and condition known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Children are distressed by or limited in everyday functioning by obsessions and compulsions. For example, they might wish to continually wash their hands. New Website (July newsletter 2017)

I hope that the term has gone well. As we near the end  of the Academic Year we have some exciting news, we have launched a brand new website via the Shopify platform. It contains a number of new features including open access to a range of free resources. A variety of new methods of payment have also been made available. Happy New Year and I hope that 2017 is going well for you. CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES CONTINUE TO DOMINATE THE HEADLINES Nearly a quarter of a million children (235189) aged 0-18 are getting specialist care from NHS mental services for depression, anxiety and eating disorders. In June this year the following numbers of children were in contact with mental health services: 0-5 years of age and under: 11849 6-10 years of age: 53659 11-15 years of age: just over 100000 16-18 years of age: 69505 Unusually more boys (130395) than girls (104522) were receiving help.
